ANTOA Delegation Discusses Air Connectivity Issues
A delegation from the Andaman & Nicobar Tour Operators Association (ANTOA), led by Vice President Soma Sundaram, along with Treasurer Mr. Barun Roy and other active members of the Association, met BJP Andaman & Nicobar State President Shri Anil Tiwari to discuss the pressing issues affecting the tourism sector in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the growing concerns over high airfares, inadequate flight connectivity, and their adverse impact on the Islands' tourism industry. The Association emphasized that air connectivity to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands is not a luxury but a lifeline.
Key Demands Submitted by ANTOA
- Increasing the frequency of daily flights to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
- Monitoring or regulating airfares during the peak tourist season.
- Expanding direct flight connectivity from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Delhi.
- Encouraging airlines to deploy additional aircraft on Andaman routes.
- Convening a joint meeting between the Ministry of Civil Aviation and tourism stakeholders.
- Recognising the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as a Special Island Connectivity Zone.
Charter Flight Operations Discussed
The delegation also discussed the importance of promoting charter flight operations to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Increased charter services would help attract high-end tourists, boost tourist arrivals, and reduce pressure on regular commercial flights.

According to the Association, Shri Anil Tiwari gave a patient hearing to all the issues raised and assured the delegation that he would strongly present the concerns and demands regarding air connectivity and tourism.
